Bad Nenndorf (dpa / lni) - The German Life Saving Society (DLRG) in Lower Saxony is preparing for a difficult bathing season in 2021.

The reason given by the association is the lack of swimming courses for children and beginners during the corona pandemic and the lack of training opportunities for lifeguards due to closed swimming pools.

"If you put all these things together, it means an enormous aggravation of the situation for us lifeguards," said the spokesman for the DLRG in Lower Saxony, Christoph Penning, the German press agency.

In addition, the aid organization expects a similarly large rush to the north German bathing lakes and coasts as last year.

"We're going to have a bathing season in which we'll have to be much more vigilant than usual," said Penning.

The DLRG therefore wants to sensitize its volunteers in discussions, and information letters are to be sent to members in Lower Saxony.

The bathing season officially starts this Saturday.

From mid-May to mid-September, around 400 swimming spots between the coast and the Harz Mountains are guarded by several thousand DLRG lifeguards.

First of all, there is supervision, especially on the weekends.

"We'll be there around the clock during the holidays," said Penning.
