The course of events in the conflict between Israel and Palestine has stirred up emotions in many.

During today's demonstration for Palestine, the organizer has stated that they want to gather for a car and bicycle procession that will drive through large parts of Gothenburg and gather in central Gothenburg.

- We protect freedom of demonstration and expression.

At the same time, we have a prevailing pandemic and need to deal with any opinions expressed in the light of both the pandemic and law of order, says Christer Fuxborg, who explains that the police have been involved in a so-called special event which means that extra resources can be added and act faster.

May 15 - special day

Saturday, May 15, is a special day for many Palestinians.

Then comes Al Nakba Day, which is the day after Israel celebrates its independence.

Palestinians refer to May 15, 1948 as Al Nakba - the great catastrophe - when many were forced to leave their homes when the new state of Israel was formed.

Something that became the start of the conflict that is still ongoing and has recently escalated again.

- We follow the development of events in the conflict.

I want to be clear that we are impartial and of course understand the frustration of both sides.

There is nothing in the current situation that indicates that there would be violence or confrontations in connection with the weekend's manifestation, says Christer Fuxborg.

SVT Nyheter Väst has sought the organizer without reaching them.
