Berlin (dpa) - Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer has called on the Union to sharply demarcate itself from the Greens in the federal election campaign and to strive for a coalition with the FDP.

"The decisive question for election day will be: How do we deal with the gigantic loads from the Corona period?" Said the CDU politician to the newspapers of the Funke media group (Saturday).

The Union is relying on economic growth, the Greens on debt and higher taxes.

“The goal is a bourgeois government that doesn't put this country in a headlock of tax increases, but gives it freedom.

So that companies can grow, jobs can be created and wages can rise, ”said Kretschmer.

Then there would also be more tax revenue to bear the burden of the pandemic in this generation.

The Union could not seriously wish for coalitions other than black and yellow: “Anyone who goes into the election campaign with the desire for black and green can quickly get a green, red and red government.

The left parties will always prefer this constellation to an alliance with the Union, ”warned the Prime Minister.

According to the current polls, however, a black and yellow majority at the federal level is not in sight.

Kretschmer categorically ruled out any collaboration with the AfD.

«The AfD are enemies of our democracy.

You shouldn't give these people any responsibility for this country, ”he said.

Union faction leader Ralph Brinkhaus (CDU) also expects a strong firewall against the AfD in the Bundestag faction.

“For me and the group there is a rule: clear demarcation to the right.

If you don't stick to it, you have to go.

That will also be the case in the next legislative period, and I firmly assume that all elected candidates will adhere to it, "Brinkhaus told the Rheinische Post (Saturday) with regard to the candidacy of the former President of the Constitutional Protection, Hans-Georg Maaßen, who is applying for the Bundestag as a CDU candidate in Thuringia.
