The "Mundo Deportivo" and "Sport" newspapers reported information confirming that Zidane decided to leave the royal club at the end of the current season, and to abandon the remaining year in his contract with the team.

Real Madrid were knocked out early from the King's Cup and left the Champions League in the semi-finals after the defeat by Chelsea, and the team's matters got complicated in retaining its title in the league, two points behind leaders Atlético Madrid, two phases from the end of the season.
