Nordhausen / Erfurt (dpa / th) - The CDU parliamentary group wants to make the attempted burning of an Israel flag at the town hall of Nordhausen a topic in the parliament's interior committee.

The security situation in Thuringia had to be reassessed after this attack, said the CDU interior politician Raymond Walk on Saturday.

The incident in Nordhausen was particularly symbolic against the background of the painful history of the former Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp there.

The threat level has reached a new level, it said.

Three strangers tried to set fire to an Israel flag in Nordhausen on Friday night.

It remained intact, but the facade of the town hall was damaged.

Police and state security investigate.

With the attack in Nordhausen, the series of anti-Semitic crimes in Thuringia continues, Walk explained.

Last year 116 cases, a quarter more than the year before, were recorded.

After the escalation in the Gaza conflict, anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic incidents had increased across Germany in the past few days.
