• Strategy Feijóo calls for "a change of cycle" in the national PP with "more predictable" policies

  • Moncloa The Government pulls the social agenda to relaunch: the 'kellys', democratic memory and protection for abortion

Now that the electoral inflammation begins to lose steam and the end of the pandemic and the beginning of the economic recovery appear on the horizon, the barons of the PSOE and the PP are focusing on the possibility that their formations undertake the great pending reforms.

Or, at the very least, reach "great consensuses" along the lines of those that the EU and the Bank of Spain have been demanding.

Some of the main socialist and

popular

regional presidents

have already put the cards on the table.

They are Alberto Núñez Feijóo (

Galicia

), Emiliano García-Page (

Castilla-La Mancha

), Juanma Moreno (

Andalusia

), Javier Lambán (

Aragon

) or Alfonso Fernández Mañueco (

Castilla y León

).

Others, such as Guillermo Fernández Vara (

Extremadura

), Fernando López Miras (

Murcia

) or Ximo Puig (

Valencian Community

), advocate a better balance between health and economy, beyond acronyms.

All of them are committed to facing the plateau of the legislature with the desire for understanding that has been conspicuous by its absence so far between the PSOE and the PP.

Both formations only approached positions on health and the EU in the Commission for Reconstruction of the

Congress

.

But 10 months later, those advances are still dead paper.

Now, the barons demand broad "consensus" in health (the reinforcement of "co-governance", the end of the pandemic, vaccination, the improvement of primary care ...) and economy (save tourism, improve the situation of the self-employed, propping up pensions, making the most and accurately of European funds, aid against depopulation, revamping regional financing ...).

Consensus would bring stability and majorities, in the face of fragmentation

Emiliano Garcia-Page

They also agree to streamline and improve the image of Justice, now that socialists and

popular people

want to reach an agreement to renew the General Council of the Judiciary, although they are not yet negotiating the details of the assignments that all process of this type implies. .

The three regional presidents who have most clearly staged their desire to transcend the acronym in a time of national emergency such as the current one have been Lambán, Page and Mañueco.

All three have signed the Albarracín Pact, by means of which they rebel against the abandonment of depopulated areas ("

abandoned

Spain

") and demand more European funds for the convergence between rural and industrialized areas.

Mañueco, Moreno and Feijóo, three autonomous presidents of the PP Lavandeira JrEFE

The socialist baron of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, was the one who raised his voice on behalf of his colleagues to demand a policy without ideological blinders, but focused on management: «The three presidents who are here are supporters of consensus ; of the consensuses that bring stability and majorities to Spain ”, as opposed to“ the reality of the country and of Parliament is a fragmented political life ”. "We are giving a very clear example that it is necessary to agree on the essentials," he stressed on Thursday, in a message addressed to national leaders, Pedro Sánchez and Pablo Casado. Lambán and Manueco nodded.

In the

Junta de Andalucía they

also advocate "great consensus" to get out of the double crisis in which Spain is plunged.

At this point, the environment of Juanma Moreno calls for a great agreement to "save" the tourism season, which is one of the main economic engines of the country and of this community.

The president of

the Andalusian Parliament

recently agreed on these ideas

: "In the face of adversity and challenges, it is more necessary than ever to have strong institutions so that tension does not become the best ally of those who bet on constitutional rupture."

Citizens must be protected without looking at the political cost

Fernando Lopez Miras

Guillermo Fernández Vara, president of Extremadura, advocates prioritizing "prudence, balance and measure."

And for basing the political consensus "on the enormous and difficult balance between health and the economy."

Feijóo entered the debate yesterday, assuring that in Spain there must be "a change in the cycle" for the country to turn towards "a more western, more European, more predictable policy" and with a higher "bar".

López Miras is very clear in his request for an economic consensus to protect the self-employed and SMEs.

Also on health issues: «Not making decisions because they can affect you electorally is not a way to combat the pandemic.

We are here to protect citizens in whatever way, without looking at the political cost.

MEASURES

  • Health

. The findings of the Commission for Reconstruction, which closed in Congress in July, anticipated big health deals for the legislature. 10 months later, they are conspicuous by their absence, except when it comes to vaccination. The barons want to strengthen "co-governance" and to be given a voice, to reach a consensus on the way out of the pandemic, more certainty about vaccination and to give a boost to primary care.

  • Economy

    .

The main demands of the presidents of PP and PSOE are economic.

In the wake of the Bank of Spain, which calls for a "great consensus" so that the reforms with money from European funds are "permanent", the barons ask that these funds be used to save tourism, improve the situation of the self-employed or fight depopulation.

They also demand a revamping of regional financing and propping up pensions.
