Several clips from the violence are currently being spread on social media.

In one of them, a car driver is seen driving at high speed through a crowd, only to be surrounded, pulled out of the vehicle and severely beaten on the street.

The violence is linked to the ongoing conflict between Israelis and Palestinians in the country.

On several occasions, in a number of different places, armed groups from both sides have attacked and several people are being cared for in hospitals after being beaten.

Both synagogues and mosques have been attacked.

A local emergency has been imposed in the city of Lod since violent riots broke out.

On several occasions, shots are said to have been fired, including by a person who, armed with an automatic weapon, opened fire on the police.

The unrest has prompted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to highlight.

"Nothing justifies the lynching of Arabs by Jews, and nothing legitimizes the lynching of Jews by Arabs."

he said in a statement.

Opposition: "Lost control"

In several tweets, Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid calls the escalating violence an "existential threat" that must be stopped.

"What we are seeing now is a complete loss of control.

Netanyahu has led us into anarchy.

Jewish and Arab rioters have declared allegiance to Israel. "

he writes.

Politicians from other Israeli parties, from left to right, have also expressed their horror at the violence.
