Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Bathers can look forward to clean waters in Brandenburg: According to the authorities, the water quality of 253 out of 255 designated bathing waters is excellent or good.

The consumer protection ministry announced on Friday that the classification was based on evaluation criteria to be applied across the EU.

Accordingly, the bathing season officially begins in Brandenburg on Saturday and lasts until September 15.

The assessment is based on designated bathing waters, including bathing areas on rivers such as the Spree or Havel.

According to the information, two bodies of water have not been rated as “excellent” or “good”: Lake Wolziger in the Dahme-Spreewald district only received a “sufficient” rating. As in the previous year, the Spree lagoon in Lübben in the Spreewald was banned from swimming, as a ministry spokesman announced. According to the information, this is related to the extremely high microbiological pollution from 2019, but also to a dry summer and the low flow speed of the Spree.

The ministry pointed out that the corona rules must be adhered to at the bathing areas.

The minimum distance of 1.5 meters must be observed.

If the seven-day incidence in a district is stable below 100, five people from two households are allowed to meet, children up to 14 years of age do not count.

If the incidence value is over 100, a household is only allowed to hit one other person.

According to the information, bathing and swimming in open waters is generally allowed.

Swimming pools, fun and leisure pools and thermal baths must currently remain closed to the public, it said.
