The California police (United States) on Tuesday intercepted a man in the back seat on the highway while his Tesla Model 3 was driving in automatic configuration on the expressway.

His behavior had been reported to the police by several calls to 911.

Witnesses were surprised not to see anyone behind the wheel of the vehicle, said the police on Wednesday on their Facebook page.

Once spotted by the police, the 25-year-old driver went back behind the wheel of his Tesla.

He then stopped on the edge of a highway slip road where he was stopped.

An insolent attitude on social networks

Officials clarified that this was not the suspect's first such offense.

A video showing the young man in the back of his moving Tesla had already been brought to the attention of authorities.

The Californian police had then fined the motorist.

The respondent was also illustrated by posting condescending messages and videos on Instagram showing him driving his Telsa without being behind the wheel, reports CBS.

This Saturday, he taunted the authorities by relaying an article devoted to one of his videos.

“You blue-collar peasants cannot understand my life,” the Californian wrote in comment.

He was indicted for "dangerous driving" and "resistance to the authority of the police".

He was taken into custody.

An investigation is underway.
