Berlin (dpa / bb) - Chickens, ducks and geese can go outside again in Berlin this Saturday.

The Senate Department for Consumer Protection announced on Friday that the compulsory stable due to avian influenza will be lifted.

The animals had to stay indoors since the beginning of March to prevent the dangerous pathogen from being transmitted.

In the past few weeks, however, fewer and fewer infected poultry have been observed.

The last case was reported to have been discovered in a wild bird almost four weeks ago.

According to the Senate, 21 cases of avian influenza have been registered in the current season.

The pathogen was found in 20 wild birds and one animal from a private poultry farmer.
