On the night of Thursday to Friday, a fire occurred in a building in the city of Canourgues in Salon-de-Provence in the Bouches-du-Rhône.

The fire broke out on the third floor of the tower around 2 a.m., reports

While the occupants of the apartment woke up in time and managed to get out of the building quickly, the family just above, on the fourth floor, did not.

A mother in her forties and her three young children found themselves trapped in the flames.

As they began to lose consciousness from the inhaled fumes, they were rescued at the last minute by the police.

No flame protection equipment

Five agents arrived on the spot went through the balconies and managed to join the family who had taken refuge in a room of the apartment.

A particularly courageous act, especially since the police did not wear any anti-flame protective equipment.

The latter carried the children in their arms to extract them by the balconies.

According to the first elements, the fire would have started from a short-circuit of a dryer.

Thirty people were evacuated in total and seven people hospitalized with respiratory problems, including a police officer and two firefighters.

The fire, which required the intervention of 40 firefighters, was brought under control around 3 a.m., reports
