Offenburg (dpa / lsw) - When it comes to child pornography, the police are increasingly investigating minors.

The background is that the possession and distribution of such images is a criminal offense.

Around 75 percent of child pornography cases in the area of the Offenburg police headquarters can be traced back to so-called schoolyard child pornography, as Chief Commissioner Volker Olbrisch said on Friday.

Overall, the number of child pornography cases in the area of responsibility of the Offenburg police more than quadrupled from 2018 to 2020 to 195.

In most cases, students would have forwarded photos or videos in chat groups, explained Olbrisch.

Only in very few cases is it about sexual abuse of children themselves.

But the forwarding is not a trivial offense, warned the head of the criminal investigation department, Wolfgang Jaeger.

“It has nothing to do with the fact that I steal a lipstick.

It also has nothing to do with smoking a joint behind the school yard. "

Even the nude photo of a 13-year-old, which the girl sends to her boyfriend as a supposed token of love, is considered child pornography under the law.

Children and young people spread pictures like this or worse because they thought it was cool or wanted to prove themselves, said Jaeger.

"They also do it as a test of courage."
