May 14, 2021 There is also a double front for Europe, orphaned by the vision of 'two states for two peoples': "Hatred for Jews, no matter who, will not be tolerated," the president told Bidl German federal Frank-Walter Steinmeier, after Israel's flags burned, "threats against Jews in Germany or attacks on synagogues". Good news in the fight against the pandemic in the north of the planet, some clouds on the covers of the magazines, which are already looking forward to next winter: will we still fight with the variants of the virus?

Israel Palestine, escalation

Israel deploys armed forces on the border with Gaza on the fourth day of a bloody conflict accompanied by an eruption of violence between Jews and Arabs in Israeli territory. Edito: no, the Palestinian question had not disappeared

On the border with Gaza, in mixed cities, the fire of violence spreads

In Belgium, the debate on the conflict is heated. Shared by the co-president of Ecolo, the cliché of a Palestinian activist, accompanied by a provocative song, set the powder on fire. The Belgian League Against Anti-Semitism saw this as anti-Semitic hate speech and called for the resignation of Rajae Maouane.

The military is building up the pressure. Air and ground bombs in the Gaza Strip. Anguish grows in the mixed city. Now the urgency of war, then we need a unity government

A political narrative of the events that is spreading on social networks, blogs, radios, predictably, explains this phase as a counter-reaction of the enemies of reconciliation. Terrorism, on the other hand, has been explained as an attempt to sabotage the peace process. We called the victims "victims of peace". We were in an atmosphere of changing attitudes towards the Arab citizens of Israel. From the hugs of the post-pandemic to the political embrace. Now these outbreaks of violence are being provoked by Netanyahu to sabotage reconciliation efforts and close the doors to the prospect of a ruling majority with Mansour Abbas' Arab party. It is hoped that the victims of these days will not soon be called "victims of reconciliation".Despite the shock of the intensity of violence against Jews, and the shock of the backlash of some groups within Jewish society, it is imperative to look away from the truth: this is a national conflict, it is said. There is a strong desire on the left to paint the events as an expression of the twilight government anarchy, as a welcome ending to 12 years of hate speech. We are actually shocked by the intensity of the violence because the past 12 years have been very different. They brought not only relative calm compared to the previous decade, but also an unprecedented integration of Israel's Arab citizens. Garbage cans were burned in Jaffa well before the state of emergency in Lod.The Yom Kippur riots in Acre in 2008 did not wait for Netanyahu. This week's violence is a page in the history of a hundred-year-old conflict. No. There is no great evidence here of national disintegration under the auspices of the government. "There is Israeli society and there are Hamas supporters raging in the streets", wrote Yotam Zimri, "Between them and with them is the rift."

Army prepares ground option as rockets rock Israel

Analysis: the loser, Abu Mazen, by Khaled Abu Toameh

In recent weeks, Mahmmud Abbas has lost the attention of Palestinians and many in the international community, who no longer see him as a major player in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. By accusing Israel of "hindering" Palestinian elections, Abbas undoubtedly contributed to the explosion of clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police in Jerusalem at the start of Ramadan. But the protests on the streets of Jerusalem and at the al-Aqsa Mosque complex have been piloted from day one by Hamas and anti-Abbas activists. Since then the protesters have directed their anger not only at Israel, but also at Abbas. Worse still, the protests have turned into pro-Hamas demonstrations, with many Palestinians chanting slogans in support of the Gaza-based terrorist group and its leaders. Yesterday tens of thousands of faithful came to al-Aqsa for the prayers of the Muslim feast of Eid al-Fitr greeted with large flags and posters of Hamas leaders. Palestinian protesters on the streets of Jerusalem and in holy places denounced Abbas as a US "agent" and an "Israeli collaborator".

Out of control: violence in the streets, clashes between Arabs and Jews in several cities.

Analysis: Has Hamas Already Won ?, by Muhammad Shehada

The new equation is: the more the escalation goes on, the more Hamas' popularity will increase as a defender of Gaza. Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh gave a victory speech last Tuesday, boasting that he "forced the occupation to push its extremists away from the Al-Aqsa mosque", taking credit for "moving on three fronts" , referring to Jerusalem, the clashes within Israel and the response from Gaza. Whether the escalation ends or not, Hamas has what it wanted: rockets reaching Tel Aviv and a demonstration that it can "avenge" Gaza and Jerusalem. At the Al-Aqsa Mosque, there are now huge banners glorifying Hamas, its commanders, its "defense" of Jerusalem and Palestinian honor. L'option of an immediate end to hostilities is currently not viable for Israel. Indeed, a longer conflict may be exactly what Netanyahu wants: to ruin the chances of a unity government without his participation.

Israel's War Will Never End, by Steven Cook

For Israelis and Palestinians, ethnic violence is not a temporary problem.

The conflict between Israelis and Palestinians is, at its core, about identity and therefore mutual denial by the antagonists. The images of that attempted lynching at the roundabout in Lod, of an Israeli Arab, by his ultra-ordodox Jewish compatriots was not the only case of violence as Israelis - Jews and Arabs - were overwhelmed by intra-community violence in Ramle, Acre, Nazareth, Haifa and Jaffa. It should be clear enough that even after 73 years, efforts not so much to integrate Palestinians into Israeli society, but to undermine their identity, have failed. Within the Green Line, Palestinians see themselves as a remnant of the population that existed before the creation of Israel and therefore share with their cousins in the West Bank and Gaza Strip a 'identity linked to dispossession and loss. Why the Palestinian citizens of Israel are on the streets now, and not before, is difficult to understand, but clearly the combination of events in Jerusalem has prompted them to reaffirm who they are against the power of a state and a society whose very existence denies. their reality. This does not justify the violence, but it helps to understand where it comes from. On the other hand, of course, there are Israelis who are deeply convinced of the historical connection between Jews and the land. The practical and logical outcome of Zionism - the state of Israel - would not have been possible, for example, in Uganda, because the religious dimension and its attraction in that territory were absent.and not before, it is difficult to understand, but clearly the combination of events in Jerusalem has prompted them to reaffirm who they are against the power of a state and a society whose very existence denies them their reality. Israel weeps for little Ido. He was just 5 years old. And in Germany, hatred of Jews is on the rise. Gelsenkirchen. In front of the synagogue, the times when Jews were insulted in the street are back, says the Central Council of Jews of Germany, after posting a video with a group of people, most of them young, among Palestinian, Algerian and Turkish flags, protesting at the cry of "Jews of m ...". Similar protests in other German cities

"We will not tolerate hatred of Jews," Federal President Steinmeier told Bild.

The fundamental law guarantees the right to freedom of expression and demonstration but "whoever burns flags with the Star of David and shouts anti-Semitic slogans is abusing this right" and must be prosecuted "Nothing justifies the threat against Jews in Germany or the attacks on synagogues. Hatred of Jews, no matter who, will not be tolerated. "

Outrage over anti-Semitic actions.

Israel between two fronts: one crosses Germany.

The conflict in the Middle East is not only raging between Arabs and Jews on the spot, but also in the minds of people in Germany. Many Muslim immigrants and a native leftist German milieu share the belief that Israelis somehow deserved the missile attacks. An alarm bell. It is strange to live in a country where the thesis of collective guilt has always been rightly rejected, and even today one runs into a loudly accused collective guilt. When it comes to Israel, all Jews around the world are suddenly somehow the perpetrators. Such a mentality was called anti-Semitism. Today it appears in the guise of a painstakingly tamed hatred of Jews and calls itself anti-Zionism. This anti-Zionism is no longer a secondary issue. In the case of the Middle East conflict, there are two fronts: one runs on the ground between Israelis and Arabs, the other is the home front. He runs in this country, he is invisible, but he always gets noticed. Above all, this front is getting bigger and bigger.

Indian students brought the Indian variant of Covid to Russia

The first carriers of the Indian coronavirus strain in Russia were identified in Ulyanovsk. They were 16 Indian students who did not want to study remotely and flew to Russia to study closer to the university. The regional department of Rospotrebnadzor (Russian authority responsible for the protection of public health) ensures that the spread of the Indian coronavirus strain outside the quarantine ward and from hospitals specializing in the treatment of Covid-19 has been excluded. The regional government trusts Rospotrebnadzor's conclusions, but is ready to take further preventive measures if necessary.

According to Rospotrebnadzor, 130 students arrived in Ulyanovsk from India in April. They are first-year students of the medical faculty of Ulyanovsk State University, who are studying medicine under a special program in English. They arrived in different groups, starting from April 17 until the end of the month. According to the rector of the university Boris Kostishko, "all the students had negative tests at the border". From Sheremetyevo airport they were taken by bus to Ulyanovsk, where they were housed in university quarantine hostels. Later, on May 10, another 18 Indian students arrived by the same route.

Tests carried out on students after their arrival revealed COVID-19 in 60 people. All of them were hospitalized in Ulyanovsk hospitals. After the May holidays, two of the patients in the quarantine ward had fevers over 38 degrees and were also admitted to specialized hospitals.

The results showed that the Indian coronavirus strain was confirmed in 16 out of 60 students. However, the regional health ministry claims that the Indian strain was detected in 15 students and another had a British strain. It is not yet known what strain the last two hospitalized students have.

According to the regional Ministry of Health, all sick students are in "satisfactory condition".

Most of the inpatients have a mild form of the disease - only two have are in medium severity conditions.

Of the 62 Indians hospitalized, 11 have already been discharged from Covid-19 specialized hospitals.

Maduro in Guaidó: "I am ready to meet all the opposition to dialogue".

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro assured this week that he was "ready" to meet "all the opposition", referring to the proposal made in recent days by opposition leader Juan Guaidó to open negotiations with the necessary conditions:

"Well, I agree, with the help of the European Union (EU) - says Maduro -, the government of Norway and the international contact group, I am" ready "to meet all the opposition, to see what comes out from this meeting, if they intend to abandon the path of war, invasion, attacks, coups, to project themselves "on the electoral path". “We are waiting for you here - replied President Maduro - the proposal is accepted. When they want, where they want and how they want ".

The head of state stressed that Guaidó has gone from a plan involving the invasion of Venezuela to dialogue with Maduro. "" Guaidó wants to sit with me? We will see what trap it will bring and what order it will have received from the north - he adds - before stating that the opponent "is a good-for-nothing from the north" who merely receives "orders" to negotiate.

The opposition leader launched a video message posted on his social networks in which he appealed to reach a great agreement that "must emerge through a process of negotiation between legitimate democratic forces, the regime and international powers".

In it, he also supported "the commitment of the international community to obtain the recovery of Venezuela and offer incentives to the regime, including the progressive lifting of sanctions", conditioned by the achievement of the fundamental objectives of the agreement.
