Erfurt (dpa / th) - In order to enlarge schools, make them barrier-free or fundamentally renovate them, Thuringia is taking 42.3 million euros in hand this year.

The Ministry of Infrastructure announced on Friday that another 14 construction projects are planned at state and 3 at independent schools.

A total of 16 out of 33 state school bodies have registered 30 projects for funding.

For these sponsors - cities and districts - 37.23 million euros would be available.

Most of the money came from the Thuringian school building program.

"Not least against the background of school operations during the pandemic, Thuringia's pupils deserve a good and modern learning environment and teachers an attractive job," said Infrastructure State Secretary Susanna Karawansky.

The investments are also about making rural areas more attractive as a place to live and living for families and guaranteeing equal living conditions in town and country.
