Ransbach-Baumbach (dpa / lrs) - While trying to settle a dispute, a 51-year-old in Ransbach-Baumbach (Westerwaldkreis) was attacked and knocked down by three young people.

The man was on a hiking trail with two companions on Thursday evening when he observed a quarrel among five young people near a forest parking lot, a police spokesman said on Friday.

He tried to settle the dispute.

Shortly afterwards a taxi drove up, in which three other young people were sitting.

The three therefore went on the group of five and also on the 51-year-old.

The man was hit and kicked.

It was only when more witnesses intervened that the young people let go of the man lying on the ground.

They fled, said the spokesman.

The relationship between the young people and what the background to the dispute was was initially unclear.
