Hamburg (dpa / lno) - A man was fatally injured on Thursday in an apartment fire in the Hamburg district of Barmbek-Süd.
He died in the hospital as a result of his severe burn injuries, the police announced on Friday.
Initially, there was no evidence of the man's identity.
According to the fire department, the kitchenette in the apartment on the seventh floor of the building burned early Thursday morning.
Neighbors were made aware of the accident by the triggered smoke alarms and alerted the emergency services.
Fire investigators from the State Criminal Police Office began investigating the cause of the fire.
