Würzburg (dpa / lby) - After the Israeli national flag has been damaged, it flies again in front of the district office in Würzburg.

The district office announced on Friday that it was “decidedly against this act of violence by anti-Semitism”.

"We are hoisting the Israeli national flag again today, as a reminder of the anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel on May 14, 1948 - and as a warning for peaceful coexistence between all people and religions," said District Administrator Thomas Eberth (CSU).

After the damage on Thursday, he had filed a complaint against unknown persons.

The Israeli flag was hoisted with the German national flag and the district flag in front of the district office on Wednesday.

According to the district administration, this was done as a reminder of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Israel and Germany on May 12, 1965.

After the escalation in the Middle East conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, there were anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli demonstrations in several cities in Germany.

Israel flags were also set on fire or stolen.
