Solingen (dpa / lnw) - In the case of an Israeli flag set on fire in Solingen, the state security is now investigating.

The police announced on Friday.

It is still uncertain whether it is one or more perpetrators.

On Thursday night an Israeli flag was lit and burned in front of the Solingen town hall.

It was hoisted the day before to commemorate the establishment of diplomatic relations between Israel and Germany on May 12, 1965.

Mayor Tim Kurzbach (SPD) had spoken of a "shameful act".

Several actors wanted to set an example against anti-Semitism together with the city in the near future.

There were also anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic incidents in Gelsenkirchen, Münster and Bonn.
