“On behalf of the investigator of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Mordovia, the former Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Mordovia, Minister of Targeted Programs Alexei Merkushkin, was detained while trying to cross the border of the Russian Federation by the employees of the Department of Economic Biology and Corruption of the Republican Ministry of Internal Affairs,” says the message of the Investigative Committee. 

According to the department, Merkushkin is suspected of bribery (part 5 of article 291 of the Criminal Code of Russia).

According to the investigation, in 2015, Merkushkin, who is the actual shareholder of OJSC CB Mordovpromstroybank, together with the chairman of the board of directors of the bank and another shareholder of the bank, gave a bribe in the amount of more than 7 million rubles to the manager of the branch of the National Bank in the Republic of Mordovia of the Volgo-Vyatka head office of the Central Bank Russia.

It is noted that the bribe was transferred for the revocation of the order following the results of the bank's inspection, since the violations revealed could lead to the revocation of the license.

Earlier, the head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Alexander Khinshtein, announced the detention of Merkushkin.
