Google is helping England coach Gareth Southgate to select and monitor his most promising players as the start of the biggest European soccer tournament approaches.

One of its main tools is a player performance software developed by the Football Association, the Football Association of England governing body, and Google.

The platform aims to bring together disparate data sources in one place so that coaches can track how well players are performing.

"We have players in the English Premier League, German and Spanish League every weekend, and we need to be able to access those shots as quickly as possible, and any data we can get from those matches as well," Southgate said.

The platform contains thousands of minutes of videos and stats about everything from completed passes and shots on target, to recognized faults and distance traveled, with data coming from the likes of sports analytics company Opta and Scout7 and even channels. BBC.

Southgate is under pressure from the crowd to reach with his team away at the European Championships, which kicks off in Rome on Friday 11 June and ends at Wembley Arena in London on Sunday 11 July.

England had not previously won the championship, and the team reached the Round of Four in 1968 in Italy, and again at home in 1996 when they lost to Germany on penalties.

The data gathered on England's players goes far beyond how they perform on the pitch and in the training ground, and their sleep and mental health are monitored.

The player performance platform also contains data recorded via the internet-connected gym devices at the team's training ground near Birmingham.

"The Google-backed platform provides Southgate and other England coaches with new insights that we hope will allow them to thrive and win," the FA Information Director said.

The federation's information manager acknowledged that there are other providers of cloud computing, such as Microsoft, Amazon, and IBM, and said: The Football Association relies on each other for different products.

He praised Google for having good standards and greater flexibility, saying: Google allows us to collaborate and integrate with those other cloud services effectively.

"The England player performance platform was created by a small team of developers in the Football Association in conjunction with Google and other companies," the FA Information Director concluded.
