Brunsbüttel (dpa / lno) - Climate protectors of the group “Endeände” are planning protests against the construction of a terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the port of Brunsbüttel (Dithmarschen district).

The days from July 29th to August 2nd are planned as the campaign period, announced "Endegebiet" on Friday.

The alliance is protesting against the further expansion of any fossil fuel infrastructure and for the immediate phase-out of coal and gas.

"Gas is a fire accelerator of the global climate crisis and fracking causes not only soil pollution but also water shortages in the mining regions," said spokeswoman Ronja Weil.

The construction of a terminal for handling liquefied natural gas is planned in Brunsbüttel.

The state government anchored the project in the coalition agreement, but a Green party congress moved away from it.

Fracking for natural gas production is used in the USA, among others.

Water, sometimes mixed with chemicals, is pressed under high pressure into gas-containing rock layers to create cracks and release the gas.

Fracking has come under fire for its environmental impact.
