Erfurt (dpa / th) - In 2020, 12 057 fewer brand-new vehicles were registered in Thuringia than in 2019.

This is evident from the latest figures published by the State Office for Statistics on Friday.

Accordingly, the total number of approvals in this period determined by the corona pandemic was 73,087.

However, a look at individual vehicle classes reveals a more differentiated picture. Although both the number of new vehicles registered for the first time (minus 11,460 to 56,579) and the number of trucks (minus 2,220 to 7901) fell, statisticians recorded increases in other areas. A particularly strong plus was documented in the registration figures for motorcycles. According to this, 4710 machines were registered last year, 1375 more than in 2019. That corresponds to an increase of more than 40 percent. In addition, 19 so-called power buses - i.e. buses with more than eight seats next to the driver's seat - were registered more than in 2019. The total number was 160.

The total number of new registrations is also falling in the national trend.

For example, 3.5 million vehicles were registered across Germany last year, 690,342 fewer than in the previous year.

When it comes to cars, the figure was around 2.9 million, almost 690,000 fewer.
