Over the past day, 9,462 new cases of coronavirus were detected in Russia (this is the maximum since March 20), 9,756 people recovered, 393 died from complications caused by COVID-19 and concomitant diseases.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the diagnosis in the country was confirmed in 4 922 901 people, of whom 4 537 634 (92.17%) recovered, 115 116 died (2.34%).

In Russia, about 132.8 million tests were carried out for the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, about 499.1 thousand people remain under medical supervision.

The number of new cases detected in Moscow (3818) was the highest since March 17.

According to immunologist Vladislav Zhemchugov, this surge may be due to an increase in the number of laboratory tests for coronavirus after the May holidays, as well as with the return of Russians from abroad.

“The situation with the coronavirus in the city remains quite tense.

The incidence figures are not encouraging, but we must understand that the coronavirus will not go away tomorrow, and such periodic increases or decreases in incidence are possible, "said Anastasia Rakova, Moscow Deputy Mayor for Social Development.

“Today, every Muscovite, citizen of our country has the opportunity to protect themselves and their loved ones from coronavirus by being vaccinated.

Opportunities for vaccination in Moscow are not limited ... The vaccine has proven its effectiveness, ”she added during a press conference at TASS.

According to the latest data, more than 24 million people took part in the vaccination campaign in Russia.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, 14 million Russians have received the first vaccination so far, and almost 10 million have completed the procedure.

“As a person who has suffered this disease himself, I would like to recommend once again to everyone to get vaccinated, first of all to the older generation, which is especially vulnerable to the coronavirus.

Please take care of yourself and take care of your loved ones, ”Mishustin said during a speech in the State Duma, emphasizing the need to form collective immunity in Russia by the end of the year.

In turn, Ancha Baranova, professor at the School of Systems Biology at George Mason University, said that the COVID-19 pandemic is leading to a reduction in the average human life expectancy.

According to her, this conclusion was made on the basis of statistics for the United States.

“Each episode of coronavirus disease, at least slightly, shortens our lives.

And in some cases, not even a little at all, but significantly.

Now the serious question of reducing the average life expectancy of a person as a species is being resolved.

We have already in developed countries (according to statistics), life expectancy has decreased by 1.5-2 years, on average.

This has already happened because of the coronavirus, "RIA Novosti quotes her.

Research into a new form of vaccine

Specialists of the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology plan to complete preclinical trials of the intranasal form of the coronavirus vaccine by the end of 2021 and expect to register the drug as early as 2022.

The director of the center Alexander Gintsburg told TASS about it.

“The center is working in several directions in terms of creating and improving vaccines against COVID-19.

One direction is the creation of a nasal form of vaccine.

Her preclinical studies are now underway.

We plan to enter the "clinic" at the end of this - beginning of next year, with the exit for its registration according to the results of the study in 2022, "said Gunzburg.

Back in February, it was reported that the Gamaleya Center was developing an intranasal form of the Sputnik V vaccine, which would be primarily recommended for children.

In March, following the results of the first research results, Gunzburg said that the drug in the form of nasal drops was "completely free of side effects."

"Even those minor side effects that are now present - in the form of a headache, a possible rise in temperature - with intranasal administration will clearly be absent, because this drug for local use and systemic reactions in the form of temperature will not cause," the specialist said in an interview with RIA News in early April.

At the same time, the Gamaleya Center received a patent for a nasal vaccine and began preclinical research.

The Vector Center, the Smorodintsev Research Institute of Influenza and the Vernadsky Crimean Federal University are also working on their own versions of vaccines in intranasal form.

Four vaccines against coronavirus infection have been registered in Russia: Sputnik V, EpiVacCorona, KoviVak and Sputnik Light. As Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin emphasized, each of them is safe and effective. And Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that even European experts talk about the "simplicity and reliability" of domestic vaccines, comparing them with a Kalashnikov assault rifle.
