Munich (dpa / lby) - It has white down feathers, large orange eyes and is considered a sensation: In the Hellabrunn Zoo in Munich, a small chick has successfully hatched among the Siberian eagle owls for the first time.
A spokeswoman for the zoo announced on Friday that the little owl can now be seen well outside of her cave.
Although eggs have been incubated again and again in recent years, it has now worked for the first time with the offspring.
The owl was born in mid-April.
At ten and eleven years of age, the parents are reportedly still relatively young.
Because the almost 70 centimeter tall owls can therefore live up to 50 years in human care.
"We are of course very happy about this breeding success - it is a first offspring for Hellabrunn," said the responsible curator Beatrix Köhler according to the announcement.

In addition to European eagle owls, Siberian eagle owls are another subspecies of eagle owls and are noticeably lighter in color.
They are the largest species of owl in the world.
Like all species of owls, they have extremely good senses and see very well both day and night.
