It was a visit placed under the sign of friendship and continuity.

At the end of the morning on Friday, Chad's new strongman Mahamat Idriss Déby appeared on the steps of the presidential palace in Abuja, alongside Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.

Then, the two men spoke in private.

During this meeting, the Nigerian Head of State recalled that Marshal Idriss Déby was “

a personal friend and a friend

” of his country and that “

Chad has always done everything to defend Nigeria

 ”.

It is therefore natural that the relationship between the two “

brother

” countries - in the words of Mahamat Idriss Déby - should continue - particularly within the Multinational Joint Force responsible for combating the jihadist threat on the shores of Lake Chad.

During this meeting, President Muhammadu Buhari also offered his “

 help

” to lead Chad towards “

a smooth transition in 18 months, as promised

” by the Transitional Military Council and the son of the former Chadian president, who now rule the country.
