US President Joe Biden said this when speaking to the White House and thus throwing water on the fire to cool the spirits.

The cyber attack that hit the Colonial Pipeline pipeline network "is something that my administration monitors very carefully," Biden said at the opening of the press conference, adding that efforts are being made to reactivate the Pipeline "as quickly and as quickly as possible. possible security "and that the FBI is also involved in the ongoing investigation to find the" countermeasures ".

The FBI leaders confirmed that the hacker group Darkside, run by a Russian criminal gang, would have acted, which with its offensive hit the Colonial Pipeline bringing it to its knees. The criminal organization is not new to this type of attack in order to demand a cash ransom to stop hostilities. The US president explained: "It is a criminal act against the Colonial oil pipeline." "So far there is no evidence based on our intelligence that Russia is involved, although there is evidence that the actors, the ransomware is in Russia." Ransomware is a type of malware that restricts access to the device it infects, requiring a ransom to be paid to free the system.

"My administration will pursue global efforts to combat ransomware attacks by transnational criminals, who often use money laundering to target them," Biden added.

The Colonial Pipeline pipeline is one of America's largest pipelines with 8,550 kilometers of piping carrying gasoline, diesel and jet fuel from the Gulf of Mexico to the Port of New York. The pipeline system accounts for 45% of the country's East Coast supplies. The situation of the Colonial Pipeline risks seriously compromising the distribution of fuel and having serious repercussions on American citizens. Meanwhile, the company has assured that it is doing everything possible to restore full functionality of the system. The full functionality thing of the pipeline is expected to happen at the weekend. In the meantime, an emergency plan has been put in place with the gradual reopening of the pipeline.

President Joe Biden, in closing his speech, answering a question, confirmed that he will meet the Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, but has not provided any other indications on where and when the meeting will take place.

The Biden administration is preparing to pass a decree for a close against the increasingly frequent hacker attacks against American institutions and companies, frequently carried out by criminal organizations controlled by other states such as Russia, China, Iran and North Korea.
