Wimsheim (dpa / lsw) - A truck loaded with copper pipes caught fire on Monday morning near Wimsheim (Enzkreis) and thus closed the Autobahn 8 in the direction of Karlsruhe.
As the police announced, the fire first broke out in the area of the rear tire and then spread to the cargo and trailer.
The driver got out just in time and was able to uncouple the trailer, it said.
Thick smoke at the scene of the accident temporarily obstructed the view in both directions.
Initially, nothing was known about the cause of the fire, and the amount of the damage was also not known.
