Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The state tourism association is demanding a clear date from the state government for the start of the tourism season.

"Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has lost ground in the past few days," said the association's managing director, Tobias Woitendorf, of the German press agency on Monday.

The association has developed a step-by-step model and proposes the resumption of tourism in two steps.

Initially, people should be allowed to travel to MV who come from a district with a seven-day incidence of less than 100 and who have a negative corona test.

According to the model, vaccinated and convalescent people should also be able to go on holiday in the northeast with appropriate proof.

Woitendorf named May 23 as a possible starting time - the current Corona state ordinance is still dated May 22.

In a second step - no later than the beginning of the school summer holidays - people from areas in the northeast where the seven-day incidence of more than 100 new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week should be allowed.

The model also provides for the opening of restaurants and retail outlets.

According to the association, shopping and the use of outdoor catering should be possible for customers without a negative corona test, but this should be necessary for indoor catering.

Tourism in particular is pushing for a clear timetable as to when guests can again be accepted in the holiday state.

In the neighboring federal state of Schleswig-Holstein, easing for tourism has already been announced due to the lower seven-day incidence, some of which are now taking effect.

On Tuesday, the state government will advise on possible opening steps in the corona pandemic.

Relaxation in schools and daycare centers is considered likely, Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) had always emphasized that this area had top priority.
