A mad chase almost, last Monday, cost the lives of police officers from the anti-crime brigade (BAC) of Tourcoing in the North. Chased after a motorcycle theft, two individuals in a van did everything to try to escape the arrest. A call for witnesses was launched to gather information in the investigation opened for, in particular, attempted murder.

It all started on the night of May 1 to 2, in Comines, not far from the Belgian border.

At around 2 a.m. on rue Louis-Braille, two men stole a motorbike which they loaded onto a white van.

The owner of the craft attempted to oppose, managing to climb into the back of the vehicle running from the thieves.

However, he was violently ejected from it and the individuals managed to escape.

A complaint was filed and the victim was able to report the van to the police.

Wrong on the highway

The next day, at the end of the afternoon, a BAC patrol spotted the suspect vehicle at the corner of the Loisel and Tournai paths, in Halluin.

When the police tried to carry out a check, the driver of the van refused to comply and fled.

Rue du Dronckaert, in Neuville-en-Ferrain, the fugitives hit the BAC car on several occasions while throwing various objects in its direction.

The pursuit continued as the thieves managed to cross the Belgian border at Rekkem before turning in the opposite direction on the E17 motorway towards Mouscron.

While on the highway, the occupants of the van threw the stolen motorcycle at the police, emptied fire extinguishers in their direction before throwing them in turn.

It was finally around 7:30 p.m. that the mad rush of the two thieves was stopped by the Belgian police.

They were arrested in the area of ​​the municipality of Waregem after hitting a motorist in an Audi.

An investigation was opened by the French police for “attempted murder, refusal to comply and aggravated theft”.

The investigators launched a call for witnesses in order to gather any information allowing them to support their investigations.
