China News Service, Beijing, May 10 (Reporter Zhang Weiran) In response to the US call on the WHO Director-General to invite Taiwan to participate in the World Health Assembly as an observer, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said at a regular press conference on the 10th, China urges individual countries to immediately stop speculating on Taiwan-related issues. This not only does not help the current international cooperation in the fight against the epidemic, but it will also be firmly opposed by the overwhelming majority of members of the international community.

A reporter asked questions. On the 7th, US Secretary of State Blincoln issued a statement saying that the United States called on the Director-General of the World Health Organization to invite Taiwan to participate in the World Health Assembly as an observer.

Excluding 24 million people from the World Health Assembly will only jeopardize global health goals and will not help respond to future public health crises.

Prior to this, the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting also issued a joint communiqué expressing its support for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in relevant forums of the World Health Organization and the World Health Assembly.

What is China's comment?

Hua Chunying said that China had previously stated its solemn position on the Taiwan-related content of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting Joint Communiqué.

Blinken’s relevant statement seriously violated the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiqués and seriously interfered in China’s internal affairs. China expresses its strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to this.

Hua Chunying said that there is only one China in the world.

Taiwan’s participation in international organizations, including WHO’s activities, must be handled in accordance with the one-China principle. This is also the fundamental principle confirmed by UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 and World Health Assembly Resolution 25.1, and has received universal support from the international community.

It is the DPP authorities who stubbornly adhere to the separatist stand of "Taiwan independence" that has caused the political basis for Taiwan to participate in the World Health Assembly to no longer exist. The responsibility rests entirely with the DPP authorities, and they know this well.

"The United States, for political purposes, hyped up that not allowing Taiwan to participate in the World Health Assembly will'endanger global health goals' and is not conducive to responding to future public health crises. This is a political lie they fabricated."

She pointed out that no one cares more about the health and well-being of Taiwan compatriots than we do.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the Chinese central government has invited health experts from Taiwan to visit Wuhan, Hubei Province for the first time. They have shared 52 epidemic prevention materials on 13 occasions, and notified the Taiwan region of the latest information on epidemic prevention and control many times, including those diagnosed in the mainland. Taiwan residents information, and a special trip to inform the mainland and the WHO to share virus gene sequences and information on ways to obtain related gene sequences.

As of May 5, the Chinese central government has notified the Taiwan region of 258 new crown pneumonia epidemics.

In March of this year, the two sides of the strait also held a cross-strait epidemic prevention policy and experience exchange symposium through video connection to share technical experience.

Hua Chunying introduced that under the premise of complying with the one-China principle, the Chinese central government has also made proper arrangements for Taiwan's participation in global health affairs.

According to incomplete statistics, since 2020, medical technology experts from Taiwan, China have participated in 16 WHO technical activities, including important meetings such as the Fourth Global Vaccine and Immunization Research Forum and the WHO Immunization Strategy Advisory Group Meeting.

Taiwan also has a contact point for the International Health Regulations, with an account to log in to the WHO event information website, and can obtain information on public health emergencies issued by the WHO in a timely manner through information websites, daily epidemic reports and other channels. Be able to inform the WHO in time.

With the consent of the central government, the WHO Secretariat has also notified health experts in Taiwan of the epidemic on three occasions.

Taiwan has also joined the "New Coronary Pneumonia Vaccine Implementation Plan."

Experts from the Taiwan region have participated in the WHO immunization strategy advisory expert group meeting many times to obtain timely and adequate information about the new crown vaccine.

"I want to point out that the Taiwan authorities have repeatedly called themselves'model students in epidemic prevention', and the United States has also publicly praised Taiwan's so-called'anti-epidemic results' on multiple occasions. On the other hand, it has been alarmist saying'endangering global health goals'. Is it contradictory?” Hua Chunying said, which fully demonstrates that the so-called “excluding the 24 million Taiwanese from the World Health Assembly is not conducive to coping with future public health crises” is an out-and-out political manipulation, and the purpose is nothing more than to serve Taiwan. Participate in the World Health Assembly to make excuses.

Hua Chunying emphasized that the Taiwan issue concerns China's core interests, and China has no room for compromise on this issue.

The current new crown epidemic is still spreading, and focusing on global anti-epidemic cooperation is the primary task of this conference.

We advise individual countries to immediately stop speculating on Taiwan-related issues. This not only does not help the current international anti-epidemic cooperation, but will also be firmly opposed by the overwhelming majority of members of the international community.
