Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - According to a study, anyone who adheres to the corona rules when traveling regularly by bus and train does not have a higher risk of corona infection than other commuters.

This is the result of the Charité Research Organization research institute, as the Ministry of Transport announced on Monday in Düsseldorf.

CRO compared the risk of infection for bus and train passengers with commuters using cars, bikes or motorbikes.

The investigation was commissioned by North Rhine-Westphalia and other federal states as well as the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV).

Result: Those who adhere to rules such as distance and consistent wearing of an FFP2 mask do not have an increased risk.

NRW Transport Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) spoke of good news for commuters who are dependent on buses and trains even in the pandemic.

The Charité study shows that public transport is safe if everyone adheres to the rules.

For the study, a total of 681 volunteer participants between the ages of 16 and 65 were accompanied over several weeks from February 2021 - in the area of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund.

The risk of infection should be tested in the real situation.

The test subjects had commuted to work, school or training for four weeks on weekdays either by bus and train or by private transport.

The CRO found no difference in terms of the risk of infection.
