Halle (AP) - The case of a six-year-old girl who was kidnapped in Halle in December, abused and then thrown into the freezing room caused horror nationwide.

The trial against the 25-year-old suspect is set to start on June 1, as the Halle district court announced on Monday.

The public prosecutor's office accuses the defendant of kidnapping, kidnapping of minors, sexual abuse of children as well as attempted murder and dangerous physical harm.

The German is said to have broken into his parents' apartment through a window on the morning of December 6, 2020.

Then he is said to have abused the child in a side street.

According to the indictment, he then carried the girl through the city, strangled her with a scarf and threw her into the ice-cold water of the hall with the intention of killing her.

Two joggers spotted the child and dragged him out of the water.

The girl had only been dressed in pajamas and stockings.

The police arrested the suspect at his workplace a few days later.

The investigators had brought clues to the 25-year-old after a phantom.

There were also recordings from surveillance cameras.

The man has been in custody since December 12th.

Eight dates have initially been set for the process.
