Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The Alter Teichweg elementary and district school in the Hamburg district of Dulsberg has received another award for its YouTube show “Dulsberg Late Night”.

The school community received the German School Prize Special from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Monday, the organizers announced.

Headmaster Björn Lengwenus and his team had been looking for a way how the school can maintain its community-enhancing atmosphere even in the pandemic. The daily YouTube show “Dulsberg Late Night” was created as a digital playground and with Björn Lengwenus as the show master. The pupils were invited to participate. For example, you could send video messages, produce your own content or take part in challenges. "The way the school reacts to the challenges of the Corona crisis in a way that is closer to students and strengthening the community is exemplary," said the jury's statement.

366 schools across Germany submitted their pioneering concepts that they developed during the corona pandemic.

Seven subject areas emerged, which is why there are seven award-winning schools this year.

At the award ceremony, Federal President Steinmeier called for investments in schools and education in and after the corona pandemic.

Committed school management, great teachers and pioneering ideas were not enough, he said at the presentation of the German School Prize 20/21 Special.

«In order for schools to develop, effectively promote their students and mitigate the negative consequences of closings, they now need the support of society and politics.

You now need attention, commitment, and money too. "

With the German School Prize 20/21 Special from the Robert Bosch Foundation and the Heidehof Foundation in cooperation with ARD and the «Zeit» publishing group, the best school concepts developed during the corona pandemic were awarded.

The prize was awarded in seven categories such as “promoting educational equality”, “implementing digital solutions” or “enabling self-organized learning”.

The seven award-winning schools from Hamburg, Hesse, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia each received 10,000 euros.

Eleven other schools received a recognition award of 5,000 euros each.
