After a tough year with the pandemic, it was not unexpected that healthcare was in focus when the blue-green parties presented their budget for the Västra Götalan region at a press conference on Monday.

In addition to the usual increase of 2 percent, the blue-green parties (M, KD, MP, L and C) that govern the Västra Götaland region want to invest an additional 700 million in salary increases for care staff.

These are 10,000s of employees.

Exactly which groups or how large a salary increase they can expect could still be unclear.

An initiative that is well-off according to the largest opposition party, the Social Democrats.

Restart for public transport

The budget also states that public transport will be "restarted" and it is hoped that by 2025 they will have managed to get travel back to the level it was before the pandemic struck.

Furthermore, the Regional Development Board, which is responsible for financing initiatives to promote growth and development in the region, will receive just over one billion for the year 2022. Money that will be used, among other things, to run nature colleges and folk high schools, finance Film in the West, the Tourist Board and ensure young people the opportunities they need to complete their studies.
