Rijkswaterstaat started work on the mega-transport of the new, temporary Suurhoff bridge in the night from Sunday to Monday.

The arch bridge of approximately 200 meters long, 20 meters wide and over 40 meters high makes a spectacular journey across the water through Rotterdam.

The bridge left the construction site in Krimpen aan den IJssel at 01:00.

Until now, the transport has passed the Van Brienenoord Bridge, De Hef, Koninginnebrug, Erasmus Bridge and Botlek Bridge.

Monday morning they docked at the Hartel complex.

The tour continues in the night from Monday to Tuesday.

The final berth is across the Hartel Canal at the Maasvlakte.

The operation takes a few days.

The large transport of the bridge was previously planned for last Wednesday, but was canceled due to the strong wind.

The Suurhoff bridge sails on pontoons and has yet to pass the Hartel complex and the Harmsen bridge.

This must be done in the night from Monday to Tuesday.

According to the current schedule, the temporary bridge will be installed next Saturday next to the existing Suurhoff bridge in the A15.

Rijkswaterstaat calls the Suurhoff Bridge a gateway to the Maasvlakte and a vital connection for the Rotterdam port area.

The current bridge will be renovated and will now have a temporary bridge next to it, which should help absorb the increasing traffic in the coming years.
