Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Too loud and too fast on the road - the police checked over 4600 motorcyclists in a focus action last weekend.

Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) said on Monday in Stuttgart: "The majority of motorcyclists stick to the rules."

More than 850 violations were found.

Almost 300 cases were speed violations and almost 400 technically manipulated motorcycles were withdrawn from circulation.

Over 600 officers were involved in around 170 control actions.

Strobl said: "In relation to the number of motorcycles checked, we found relatively few speed violations."

That is good news, because driving too fast is still the main cause of fatal motorcycle accidents.

Last year the police registered almost 4,700 accidents involving a motorcycle in the southwest.

This was 4.3 percent less than in 2019. 71 motorcyclists were killed last year, compared to 94 in 2019.
