Since this Monday afternoon 4 p.m., the habits of motorists and cyclists residing in the south of the Nantes conurbation have been a little upset.

Two new lanes are in fact opened in the extension of the Trois-Continents bridge, on the edge of the site of the future CHU, on the island of Nantes: boulevard Simone-Veil and rue Gisèle-Halimi.

The first is to link the Trois-Continents bridge to Boulevard Léon-Bureau, in front of the Machines de l'île.

But, as long as the railway tracks have not been dismantled (around 2025), it will only be connected to rue Gisèle-Halimi.

This serves Boulevard Gustave-Roch, near the restaurants and the Béghin-Say factory.

The CHU site is revealed

The opening of these two new axes now forces vehicles to bypass the site of the future hospital, from which we will now have a bird's-eye view.

At the same time, the road along the quay is closed permanently.

The surroundings of the quay will also soon be absorbed by the work of the CHU.

The opening of the new Nantes University Hospital is scheduled for 2026. The new tram lines, the construction of which is scheduled for two years, will follow the route of Boulevard Simone-Veil.
