- This is a place that has been perceived as unsafe.

Camera surveillance is a measure that many want to see here, says Anders Fridborg, head of security at Uppsala municipality.

The application to set up cameras in front of the old station building at Olof Palme's site came in several years ago.

That the cameras are now finally up is due to a change in the law from last year.

- The new legislation means that the Travel Center and stop areas where many people move are exempt from permit requirements, says Anders Friborg.

Can be used to solve crimes

Most of the filmed material will not be used for anything, but during an ongoing criminal investigation, the police can request parts of the material.

- At Centralpassagen we have had cameras for a few years and we regularly hand out film material to the police.

They are then used in preliminary investigations and trials, says Anders Friborg.
