Aachen (dpa) - In the process of an act of violence committed almost 25 years ago, the prosecution requested a man to be sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.

The 51-year-old defendant killed the victim in 1996 with an accomplice who had died out of greed, the prosecutor said in his plea on Monday.

They would have wanted 5000 euros from the victim.

The defendant is said to have worked in a workshop with the victim, a 43-year-old motorhome dealer.

The German hadn't said a word on six days of the negotiation.

The trial concerns a victim of violence who has not been identified for more than 20 years.

The man's naked body was discovered on December 8, 1996 in an old gravel pit on the Lower Rhine.

This is why the case, which had long been classified as a "cold case", was given the name "Sandkuhle".

It was not until 2019 that a viewer of the wanted program named «Aktenzeichen XY ... unsolved» the name of the deceased and gave a reference to the accused.

The indictment is based on witnesses to whom the accused and the deceased alleged accomplice reported the act of violence at the time.

The prosecutor said that the perpetrators' knowledge can be seen from the report of this witness.

That the victim was not only hit by many beatings, but also throttled, was not published at the time.

In total, the court heard over 45 witnesses.

The victim's daughter is a joint plaintiff in the proceedings.

Her lawyer joined the prosecutor's request.

The daughter was seven years old when her father disappeared overnight.

You could never believe that your father had let you down, said her representative.
