Mainz (dpa / lrs) - Working mothers in Rhineland-Palatinate who are insured with the Barmer health insurance company have taken on the care of children significantly more often than fathers this year.

In the first three months, women took out pandemic-related child sickness benefits 1,666 times, as the health insurance company announced on Monday.

In the case of men, this was only the case in 687 cases.

This means that not even every third application (29.2 percent) for pandemic-related child sickness benefits went to the account of men insured with Barmer, it said.

According to the health insurance, mothers received a total of 4,280 days in the first quarter of 2021 on which they received child sickness benefit.

For the fathers insured with Barmer, it was only 1,627 days.

According to the information, parents have been able to receive a maximum of 30 days of child sickness benefit per child if the child is ill or childcare is canceled due to a pandemic.
