Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The shared taxi provider Moia will resume regular operations in Hamburg on June 1.

"In view of the positive trend in fighting pandemic in Hamburg, we have decided to restart operations step by step and with caution," said the head of the VW subsidiary, Jens-Michael May, according to a statement on Monday.

Moia will initially be on the move with a fleet of a maximum of 190 vehicles in an "adapted business area of 200 square kilometers".

The electric minibuses had to cease operations a year ago in April and May 2020 due to the corona.

Moia is currently only offering trips between midnight and 6:00 a.m. on behalf of the city until May 16, as a replacement for the HVV night service that was discontinued until Thursday night.

Moia started on April 13, 2019 with 100 vehicles and a service area of 200 square kilometers.

Without a pandemic, around 330 electric minibuses would serve around 320 square kilometers today.

Originally, around 500 vehicles were planned by the end of 2019.

Wearing an FFP2 mask is compulsory for Moia rides.

To provide additional protection for passengers and drivers, the driver's area is separated from the passenger compartment by a hygienic protective pane.

Moia also has its drivers regularly tested for corona infections.
