Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The Rhineland-Palatinate FDP wants to elect its state board digitally this Monday evening (6 p.m.) in the second attempt.

On Saturday, the state party conference had to be canceled due to technical problems with the voting system.

Volker Wissing, who has moved to Berlin as general secretary of the party and is no longer a member of the new traffic light government, wants to run again as state chairman.

Due to the corona pandemic, the party conference can only take place online. Wissing said that the FDP opted for the “safe and certified system” Polyas. "We trusted that it would work." Since the service provider could not promise to get the problems under control in two hours, the party conference was canceled. "As soon as we have a firm commitment that the technology works, we can continue this party conference."

For legal reasons, the digital choice must then be confirmed by letter.

That was also the case at the SPD state party conference last Thursday, at which state chairman Roger Lewentz and his three deputies Doris Ahnen, Alexander Schweitzer and Hendrik Hering, were confirmed in their offices and the new general secretary Marc Ruland was elected with a large majority.

In his speech at the beginning of the FDP party congress on Saturday, Wissing sharply criticized the federal government's corona policy.

"For us it is unacceptable when a Chancellor describes basic rights as privileges," he said.

The federal government acted “haphazardly” in the pandemic.

The corona crisis revealed many problems that existed in Germany.

With a view to the federal election in September, Wissing, who is also Secretary General of the Federal FDP, underlined the Liberals' goal of having an important say in the formation of the next federal government.
