Wiesbaden (dpa / lno) - Emma and Finn were the most common first names for newborns in Schleswig-Holstein in the past year.

In the girls' category, Ida and Hanna followed in second and third place, as the Society for the German Language (GfdS) announced on Monday in Wiesbaden.

In the boys' category, Elias came in second and Paul in third.

Nationwide, Emilia, Hanna (h) and Emma were the most popular for girls, and Noah, Leon and Paul for boys.

The GfdS relies on data from more than 700 registry offices with a total of almost one million name entries.

This means that almost 90 percent of all names given in Germany in 2020 were recorded.
