Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - Even if it has rained heavily in the past week, it is clearly too dry in large parts of Hesse.

Some rivers, lakes and especially the groundwater have sometimes below average water levels, as the State Office for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology (HLNUG) announced on Monday for the balance of the winter half-year.

Overall, the months of November to April were very changeable - sometimes it was clearly too dry compared to the long-term average values, sometimes there was even flooding.

But when there was plenty of wetness from the sky, that was not enough: "Unfortunately, the precipitation in the past six months only led to a slight recovery in the groundwater levels in some regions," said HLNUG President Thomas Schmid.

«The precipitation deficit since 2018 could not be compensated.

An above-average wet winter half year would have been necessary for this. "

It was not until the abundant rainfall in January and the somewhat too wet February that there were widespread increases in groundwater levels, as it was said.
