The 27-year-old Dutchman, Taco van der Hoorn, wins the third stage, Biella-Canale d'Alba, 190km, ahead of the group by 4 ”(Cimolai takes the place of honor in front of Sagan and Viviani). Filippo Ganna, winner of the opening time trial, keeps the pink jersey.
Van der Hoorn is part of a group of eight who started immediately after the start. The other seven, gradually sucked into the group, are Cougeard, Pellaud, Zoccarato, Albanese, Rivi, van den Berg and Ponomar. The Dutchman resists the lead very well even on the delicate final which includes dangerous tears and closes with arms raised, incredulous.
After the three Piedmontese stages, the Giro now moves to Emilia Romagna. The fourth stage on Tuesday will bring the caravan from Piacenza to Sestola, 187km.
