Hamburg (dpa / lno) - Hamburgers over 70 can now be vaccinated against the corona virus in four hospitals.

After the Agaplesion Diakonieklinikum in Eimsbüttel, the Bethesda Hospital in Bergedorf, the Asklepios-Klinikum Nord in Langenhorn and the Asklepios-Klinik in Harburg also offer vaccinations.

The Albertinen-Haus in Schnelsen is also to open a vaccination center.

In the clinics, up to 3000 vaccinations per week are to be given to the elderly, as Social Senator Melanie Leonhard (SPD) explained on Monday during a visit to the Asklepios vaccination center in Harburg.

Initially, only those over 70 years of age should be vaccinated in the clinics because the elderly could simply prove their eligibility with their identity card.

You can book an appointment under the number 116117 or on the website www.impfterminservice.de.

"This is a great day for the vaccination campaign that it is now going on decentrally in Hamburg," said Leonhard.

It is possible that other population groups who are willing to be vaccinated will soon be able to have an injection in the clinics.

The federal government had promised to lift the prioritization of those eligible for vaccination at the beginning of June, said Leonhard.

But even then there will still be waiting times, because the demand in Hamburg will exceed the supply of vaccines.

Asklepios board member Joachim Gemmel said that in a first step the group had already vaccinated its employees.

That has now happened to 90 percent of employees.

Then the patients with longer hospital stays were taken care of.

The opening of the vaccination centers in Harburg and the Heidberg Clinic in Langenhorn for the population is now the third step.

In the Asklepios clinics - the largest medical provider in Hamburg - there are still many corona patients.

"We are glad that the wave is now going back," said Gemmel.

The Asklepios clinics were not overloaded.

"In some cases we had stress again and again, but we did not reach the stress limit."

The situation was manageable.
