Hanover (dpa / lni) - At the start of the tourist season under corona conditions, according to a survey by the Lower Saxony Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHKN), the majority of the accommodation providers are initially skeptical.

A total of 54 percent of entrepreneurs in hotels, inns and guest houses, youth hostels, campsites and holiday homes and apartments said that they would not open for tourist overnight stays on Monday, according to a statement.

In the case of hotels, it was even 66 percent of those surveyed, and in the case of holiday homes and apartments only 36 percent.

The main reason not to open yet are economic reasons.

This was stated by 47 percent of the companies.

One reason for this is the state child regulation, because for many hoteliers holidaymakers from other federal states are vital. “It cannot be conveyed why guests from other federal states are excluded if they arrive with a negative test and are also tested on site. Then the incidence in the place of origin should be irrelevant », said IHKN managing director Hendrik Schmitt. The Chamber of Industry and Commerce welcomes the announcement by the state government that overnight stays in the next easing stage will also be made possible for foreign guests.

In addition to the lack of profitability, 32 percent of the companies see the short lead time as the second biggest problem.

The opening perspective was only announced on May 4th by the state government.

“This is far too short-term for many companies.

For example, it takes an average of two to three weeks for a hotel to get up and running again.

The labor market situation is also currently worsening.

Many seasonal workers are no longer available due to the late start, ”said IHKN tourism spokesman Arno Ulrichs.

The survey also found that the majority of accommodation companies do not consider a daily test requirement to be feasible.

In the case of campsites, 96 percent of those surveyed said this.

"We are therefore very pleased that the state government has listened to the economy on this point and has not included a daily test requirement in the new ordinance as announced," added Hendrik Schmitt.

Some of the currently closed operations have an opening date in mind.

Almost a third want to open before Pentecost, a third at the beginning of June.

Almost 700 accommodation providers took part in the IHK survey by Sunday.
