Cologne / Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The playoffs of the basketball Bundesliga with the Hamburg Towers begin on May 19.
The league announced on Monday.
After that, there will be two games a day in the four quarter-final series, all of which will be played in best-of-five mode.
Defending champion Alba Berlin will start the knockout round with the Towers from the Hanseatic city, the main round first MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg will meet Brose Bamberg.
The other two quarter-final pairings have not yet been finalized and depend on the outcome of the catch-up game between EWE Baskets Oldenburg and BG Göttingen this Tuesday (7 p.m.).
"Due to the difficult season caused by corona, we are happy to have come this far," said BBL managing director Stefan Holz.
"Due to the staggered and almost daily fixtures, there is - similar to the final tournament last year - so much basketball for the fans than ever before."
With a view to the coming season, the clubs and the league decided to initiate a wildcard procedure.
This is possible because only the MLP Academics Heidelberg are promoted from the 2nd league, provided that they fulfill the subsequent conditions in the license issued.
Interested clubs have the opportunity to apply for the wildcard until May 20, 2021, 6:00 p.m.
In order to make it easier for the clubs to apply in the uncertain Corona times, they can pay the fee of 700,000 euros in two stages.
