The blast occurred just hours before the Taliban announced a three-day ceasefire in Afghanistan to celebrate the holiday of al-Fitr, which ends Ramadan.

Violence in war-torn Afghanistan has escalated sharply in recent weeks, in light of the US announcement that it plans to withdraw its forces before 9/11.

60 died in attack

On Saturday, about 60 people were killed in an attack on a girls' school in an area in Kabul where many Hazaras live.

The attack was the deadliest in the country in over a year, and almost all the victims were school children between the ages of eleven and fifteen.

President Ashraf Ghani accuses the Taliban of being behind the act, but the movement denies involvement.

The extremist group IS has previously carried out a long series of attacks in which Shia Muslims have been targeted.
