Koblenz (dpa / lrs) - In the opinion of the State Fire Brigade Association (LFV) Rhineland-Palatinate, fire brigade members have to be more quickly involved in vaccinations against Covid-19.

"Understanding of the long waiting time for nationwide vaccinations for fire brigade members is dwindling," said the President of the LFV, Frank Hachemer, in Koblenz on Monday.

Firefighters in priority group 3 could register for vaccination, "but not all those willing to be vaccinated are offered a vaccination appointment promptly," it said.

Fire brigade members are not only exposed to a high risk of infection as helpers in vaccination centers: the emergency services could also "come into direct contact with infected people at any time, for example in the event of traffic accidents or the increasingly frequent assistance for the rescue service," said Hachemer.

Therefore, it is incomprehensible why fire brigades cannot be provided with vaccinations as a separate group and have to intervene in the normal public appointments, he said.
